The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the few most important holidays in the Chinese calendar, the others being Chinese New Year and Winter Solstice, and is a legal holiday in several countries. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.
There are additional cultural or regional customs, such as:
*Putting pomelo rinds on one's head
*Carrying brightly lit lanterns, lighting lanterns on towers, floating sky lanterns
*Burning incense in reverence to deities including Chang'e (Chinese: 嫦娥; pinyin: Cháng'é)
*Planting Mid-Autumn trees
*Collecting dandelion leaves and distributing them evenly among family members
*Fire Dragon Dances

798 Art Festival 2010: The annual 798 Art Festival takes place from September 18 to October 17th this year, bringing with it the usual array of exciting exhibits, music and film events. Galleries throughout the district will be participating, showing cutting edge art from China and abroad. The main objective of the festival is to expose young artists and to provide a platform for exchange and recognition.

1st Music Funhill Festival: Beijingers certainly aren’t deprived of music festivals this year. The 1st Music Funhill Festival kicks off in Beijing’s Fangshan District during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from September 21-23. Located some 15km from the city, the festival promises to be three days and three nights of outdoor fun featuring a strong line-up of national and international bands.
At the time of writing, the line-up included English bands Mr. Hudson and Zero Seven. Major Chinese bands and musicians include Zhang Chu, Free the Birds, Xie Tianxiao, Brain Failure, Steely Heart, Wang Wen, Zhou Yunpeng and Ruins, Ma Tiao etc. The electronic stage is also a magnet for Beijing’s best DJ’s including the folks from Meiwenti Soundsystem, Sulumi, iLoop, Mickey Dee, Dead J, England’s Zero 7 & many more.

A Thousand Stones – Richard Long Solo Exhibition:James Cohan Gallery Shanghai is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in China by the internationally renowned British artist Richard Long. Considered one of the most influential artists of his generation (b. 1945), Long's works have extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and methods. In this exhibition of new works Long will also use materials indigenous to mainland China, such as stone and clay, and will feature sculpture, fingerprinted objects, a wall work made of colored clay, photographs, and text works.

Journey to the West – Feng Mengbo Solo Exhibition: Beijing based artist, Feng Mengbo has been working along the blurred boundary between digital gaming and contemporary art for the past two decades. His quirky digital inventions and experimental modifications of commercial video games have come to inhabit a new media space truly of its own. Feng has extensively used gaming hardware and software for both social commentary as well as the development of performance projects, and even painting.
